The Top Factors That Affect Local Google My Business Page Rankings
Tandem Interactive, a local search marketing agency in South Florida, reports on a recent study that was conducted by Local SEO Guide, along with the help from The University of California Irvine’s Center for Statistical Consulting. The study reveals new information regarding the factors that influence Google My Business page rankings.
The study’s intention was to answer the question, “How do you prioritize your local SEO operations?” What subsided is data regarding the similarities that are shared between GMB pages that rank well in the Google SERP.
Top Local Ranking SEO Factors
The study concludes that links are the key competitive difference when it comes to GMB Rankings. Data from top ranking sites, like Majestic, prove to be within the top ten link metrics.
- Website Indicators
The traditional SEO ranking signals from a business’ website show influences in the ranking of their GMB page. The use of keywords and the content length appear to be particularly influential. The study also concludes that if a page performs well organically, its GMB page will also perform well.
- Google My Business Signals
Signals that form within the GMB profile itself become one of the top ranking factors. These signals are ones such as reviews, photos, and the page being Owner Verified. Another key ranking factor is having a keyword in the GMB profile business name. The study states that the business will rank at least 1.5 spots higher if there is a keyword in the name of the business.
- Toolbar PageRank
While PageRank is officially dead, the study shows that there is a strong connection between a high PageRank score and higher Google My business page rankings.
Not So Important Factors
- Local Citations
While citation consistency is important, the study shows that overall volume of citations doesn’t matter as much. Once you have your citations in place and consistent, you should move onto the next important matter.
- Geo-targeted Text
Using geo-targeted text on the website, such as the city and state in the title, returns poor results in regards to Google My Business page rankings.
